The foundation of Nanak Chand Educational institutions was laid down more than one hundred and twenty years back. Nanak Chand College was formally started in the year 1807 A.D. A huge beautiful building was built having sprawling lawns and play grounds. Pt. Nanak Chand ji donated all his property for educational & social purposes and made a trust to look after its’ activities. By the year 1952 N.A.S. Degree College started conducting U.G. and P.G. classes with full establishment. The founder Professors of History Department Dr. Banwari Lal Sharma & Dr. V.C. Pandey had been the scholars of great eminence-their contribution to the subject and research is well acclaimed world over. Dr. Banwari Lal Sharma was the first principal of the college. In the flow of Gyan Ganga (river of knowledge) Prof. K.K Sharma, Dr. R.G. Mishra, Dr. Ashok Shastri, Dr. Somendra Vashistha, Mr. Ajay Mohan Sharma, Dr. Yogesh Kumar Sharma consistently made their great efforts to take the department to great heights. Presently Dr. Devesh C. Sharma, Head of the Department, Dr. Smita Sharma, Dr. Naveen C. Gupta, Dr. Pankaj Sharma are carrying foreword the legacy of their predecessors. Part time teachers Dr. Gaurav Dutta, Dr. Aparna Sharma, Mr. Tasveer Singh Chaprana, Mr. Kapil Kumar, Mr. Vikas Kumar and others at times contributed their valuable wisdom to the department. The Professors of the department have the exposure to India and abroad visiting Europe, U.S. and other continents for the academic pursuit enriching the academic environment of the department benefitting the students and the research scholars. The department specializes in the three branches of Indian History i.e. Ancient Indian History, Medieval History and Modern History of India. History of Europe, History of U.S.A and History of China and Japan, Word Civilization are compulsory papers for U.G. and P.G. curriculum. Historiography, Research Methodology, Travel and Tourism are important papers for P.G. Classes. The syllabus is regularly regulated by the University to include latest trends in the field of history. The department id actively engaged in research work leading to Ph.D. and carrying Post-Doctoral research works. Professors are contributing to the subject by writing book and contributing articles in research journals. Apart from this department is engaged in exploring new archaeological site and exposing and adding new knowledge to the Indian history. The department is also associated with a Bi-annual research journal. Department provides a conducive environment to the students to grow with the subject and pursue research work. Rich library of the college and the Historical Museum of the department with historical artifacts, paintings and collection of potteries etc. excavated from the new explored and excavated archaeological sites in and around area of the Meerut are the valuable assets of the department. The department is equipped with all the modern electronic gadgets of teaching. Department’s primary objective is to enrich the knowledge of students and make them understand the true spirit of subject. Many students of the Department have established themselves in various sectors and have brought glory to the department.
